Summer Birthday Combo

Their birthdays aren't really that close together (Rhett-June & Ari-August), but because we were in Idaho most of the summer & the boys were gone during Rhett's b-day we decided to celebrate them together when they got back
Lovely gender-neutral cake with a secret...it's a beet cake with coconut chocolate frosting (& my healthier version of cream cheese frosting). Seriously, NO ONE could tell they were getting a serving of veggies in this little bear! This is my new fav-or-ite chocolate cake, beets or not! So moist, cool purple batter (it's just brown after it bakes), no sugar and in this case, let's not forget the de piece de resistance--lego eyes, nose and mouth!
The magic of a flame
Look at her looking at big brother :)
You may think he's going for the cake...nope, it's the candles, neither one really cared for the cake much. Huh.
Another tender big brother picture...Jaydon & Jyson had just as much fun as the b-day kiddos just seeing their reactions :)
You sure you want me to eat this?
Drawing with it is more fun...
Humph, that was a good one bite. Next? Ice-cream? Now THAT I love.
Why is everybody doing crazy faces...they want us to smile or something?
 What a little gentleman
I really love how toddler 1 is putting shoes on toddler 2...aren't all these little people cute?

My camera battery died so this is the only picture we got of the goodies table and the adults...we had cake, ice cream, & tinfoil banana boats & cinnamon/apples over the fire as well (some of the guests weren't too sure about how awesome they would be...see pic below...but they soon learned the error of their doubts!)
I guess the good thing about your camera dying is that you actually have proof that you were at the party when someone takes over for you (thanks to Ginny for her awesome camera & being willing to snap all the fabulous pictures thereafter!!)

I love low-key get-togethers because let's face it, I stress enough as it is. We had the food, the fire, and lawn games/trampoline and it was just perfect!

I love that now at three-years old we're really starting to get to know this little gal. Her personality is just so much more evident as she talks more and more.
-She loves to 'pat pat' the bread dough and is so tender as she says, "bread go na-night" when we cover it to let it raise.
-Jyson informed us that we've done a great job as parents because Ari is so mannerly with her "peez" and "kank you's"
-She still throws her food on the ground when she wants attention or to tell us she's done. Sigh. I know, I should learn, right?
-Family favorite words/phrases: numich "sandwich", "You're fuddy [funny]" -Will spontaneously say, "Mom, luv you!" When she says, "help you" it really means "help me"
-She is so empathetic. She notices the guy across the room who is "sad, Mommy?" Or the baby down the hall, "baby, ky-ing?" She gives the boys hugs and kisses when she can tell they're hurting. She'll also say, "ok, Mommy?" or "what happened" if I act frustrated or stressed. Amazing.
-So, you might wonder at this follow-up...she has become an expert tackler. She will jump on top of Rhett and push his face into the carpet. I think it's her personal way of saying, "Mom, come play with me NOW!"
-Colors are still hit and miss, but her shapes she's had mastered for months and months and really enjoys finding shapes in the world around her (tortilla chips--'ti-angle'!!)
-Ari insists on washing Rhett's hair while I wash hers in the tub. She also is very definite on her 'motherly intuition & fairness' & is determined Rhett does things when she does--whether he is so inclined or not
-She absolutely LOVES the trampoline
-She has started singing more and more & especially loves to help sing Rhett his bedtime song
11 months
-Started walking furniture to furniture
-So easy to please, even when Ari takes whatever he's playing with
-Smiles non-stop, still!
-Is not afraid of people in the least and will go to anyone, anywhere, anytime (he makes lots of strangers feel awesome...add Ari into the mix and they all feel like the new baby whisperers!). I love it, and yet, I worry about others' personal space and like...uh, yikes, the safety aspect of it!
-Lights up when he sees Dad
-Does the blowing/raspberry sound-thing
-Loves to eat
-Loves to shake his head back & forth while grinning

12 months (and counting...)
-Wow has this guy blossomed!
-He's figuring out he has to make his presence known and has started 'fighting back'. I have to admit...after he figured out how to pull Ari's hair, the tackling has decreased...
-Will use his utensils and we love it because it keeps him occupied for forever!
-He's in total copy-cat mode...including talking. He says, "up (for up AND down :), Ma ma, buk [book], 'fff fff' for 'food' and does the monkey 'oo oo', growl for tiger & 'vuff vuff' for dog. He also does a lot of "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa AAAAAAAAAAAAAA" as he is trying desperately to communicate.
-He LOVES to read books and Ari must have rubbed off because he'll back up & plunk down in your lap with a book in his hand
-He frequently carries around whatever toy animals he can get his chubby hands on (usually the zebra and tiger)
-He will most definitely run the other direction if he thinks you're coming to get him
-He does not love the bath
-He is still a cuddly little koala bear...hugging with his legs and arms while resting his chin on my shoulder
-He has developed his climbing & 'must destruct to inspect' skills. I have to put both table benches upside down & under the table and make the chairs complete islands in the dining room if I should want to, I don't know...put the dishes away or try to make dinner whilst he is on the other side of the 'kitchen gate.' And still, I can't even count the number of times I've found him crawling around on the table...AND he taught Ari, grrr....
-This dude loves animals (poor things, this age just doesn't grasp "gentle" yet, you know?). Thank good ness for the life-sized stuffed dog at library story time...you can squeeze and yank that dog all you want little guy!

We love them to pieces!
