A bit of spring...branches from our pretty bushes & tulips from Tony for Easter
Hello. I'm Ari and I'm 2.
The maiden-stationary-voyage of our clothesline: it makes me feel productive, green, efficient, domestic and happy just looking at it--it's a lot to feel, you should get one.
Mmmm. I love carrots. They taste better splayed out like this.
A little Jyson food art: he calls it the 'egg-bread envelope'. P.S. Those are duck eggs! At a barn sale down the street I discovered a treasure: local eggs & honey from a family who seriously 'does-it-all!'

9 and 10 month-old buster

9 months
Before the haircut (his first real one with the clippers)
After the haircut :)
-This guy is so much fun!
-He loves the vacuum & will crawl after it
-2 good bottom teeth, 2 other monsters coming in on top
-His night-time is finally more complete. He still has times when he thinks he needs to get up for that before-dawn snack, but for the most part he sleeps 6:30pm to 5/6 when he gets up to eat, then will go back to sleep until 8am--or later!--if I let him, but it's better when I wake him at 7 because then he'll take  a morning nap around 9 & then another at 1ish. If I don't wake up up by then, it's hit & miss with him taking 2 solid naps during the day. However, even if he gets only one nap, he's still pretty adaptable...he'll still smile and be happy for the most part

10 Months

 -Loves to crawl in grass
-1 more tooth coming in on bottom
-Is finally willing to suck on a bottle instead of just chew
-Is SO wiggly...diaper changes are certainly more of a wrestling match than anything else.
-He seems to be obsessed with finding pointy objects & trying to suck on them before Mom flips out & grabs them away
-He crawls to the front door & will push the screen open & try to crawl out (it's pretty cute to see his chubby little hand emerge from under the screen door)
-Babbles mucho 'ma ma ma ma'
-stood for the first time for 3 seconds, will walk along furniture a bit
-Is amazingly tolerant of Ari 'loving' him, sitting/riding on him, her giving him 'zorbitz' but he has perfected the 'grab-the-hair-&-hold-on-tight-technique'
-Loves the stroller
-While we all cleaned/organized our 'pole barn' last Saturday he just sat in the stroller & watched us...for like, an hour & a half before he started fussing!
-He is pretty amazing at entertaining himself
-He really likes seeing home movies/pictures of himself...he'll just stare transfixed and then will smile and laugh
-He loves noises--he really enjoys pounding on the piano

Easter Break: Mommy plays at table refinishing

It all started with this leg...hard to see, but there's a lovely crack that severs the top from the bottom completely in half! Boy am I curious how THAT happened! Not to mention the rest of it: totally hashed-looking, but...with potential! Tony & I whittled the price down to $60 in response to their proposed $130 (!) at a local garage sale in good ol' Rexburg (similar ones sell for around $500-$1,000!). The pros: 2 leaves to make an 8 ft table of solid wood-awesomeness (er, minus the leg), 2 benches & 2 chairs. Tony did a serious wood-glue job, we covered the top with a tablecloth & declared it good enough for the next nearly 4 years (that's how long it took me to make a friend who offered to let me use her sander :) !
Unfortunately, this is the only 'before' picture I have of the top w/out the table cloth (the boys are standing on it. That's right after we moved in to the last place we were in). But, you can get the idea from the pics of the benches:
Goldy, oldy, moldy wood-color with a bazillion dirt-colored dents, nicks & ouchies. That was our table. Honestly, the top of the table was a lot worse than the benches, just use your imagination...

And these pics show the chairs...dingy colors, & yummy stains from who-knows-whats...and believe you me, Oxy Stain Remover & I worked hard to get it that 'good.'
Not bad from a distance; though, potential, you see...

Next came the initial sanding & stain...not water-based so my topcoat of choice (minus toxins, from THIS website-- I had to save my pennies for awhile, though, but totally worth it & their customer service was the best I've dealt with in years!) wouldn't stick I was told, so sanding #2 took place (after a few months break for me to get over the frustration of having to do it again). After going through another color stain supposedly 'walnut' but looking more like a red-oak type color I applied this *true* walnut color...
I was giddy in love, ask my good friend Ginny who was there when I did it :) However, because of a mistake on my part, and the fact that the sanding didn't take away all of the issues/took away too much in some weaker spots, I decided to sand it a bit & go more with the old farmhouse table look. And then I sanded some more, and a bit more, and more, until I came up with this (before the topcoats):
I loved it more already...and then it started to hit me: dark tables show everything, every new nick, every crumb, every mistake...this makes the old ones look like they were on purpose, and the new ones will be right at home! I love it when I'm a genius on accident :)

5 layers of top coats later, here's the final product (too bad I didn't take better pictures 'just table' pictures when it was in the light-filled living room for Easter dinner):
Don't you just love a good knot? Mmmm, I do, I really do.
And here are the chairs. I used Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint in 'Old White' (no sanding or  priming needed, PERFECT!). Again, gotta love the distressing to cover up the 'love' it will surely experience at our house.
And this is my first attempt at a slipcover of my own creation (that's why there aren't any up-close pictures, let's just say it was a great learning experience...). Made from a durable, stain-resistant paint drop cloth, piping out of the same (not hard at all to make your own!) and just a teensy little skirt over the edges--don't want to cover those pretty {chair} legs.

Epilogue o' the leg: It's still broken. The price to replace all 4 legs (since it would be even more to have just 1 custom-made leg) would be about $200. So, we decided to deal with it as-is until it breaks & then decide then what to do at that point (like pray to find a cheap table that has legs that would fit...or maybe I just need to learn how to turn legs myself, yeah...).

Now, on to my next project:

Let's Celebrate--it's conference!

The goods & set-up: thought it was out of reach of the littles until I took this picture & my oh my, look what crept in at the last second...
The gluten-dairy-sugar-free version of "pick a thingy every time you hear the word" activity. The boys also loved their packets as usual.
Even Rhett was totally into it :) In all seriousness, conference was the balm for all our current needs. It was pure bliss & learning & beautiful bonding time (right after the epic contention-ness we had RIGHT before it started, that is)! Ari & Rhett were amazingly cooperative, leaving us to bask in the words of the prophets.
More yummies in between sessions: major veggie salad w/ blue corn tortillas, & the newest permanent FABULOUS edition to our 'dips' recipes: "faux guacamole sans avocados" found HERE
And of course, I believe desserts should get their own picture...especially this one...chocolate pudding (or dip, or pie, depending on your usage) that is sugar, dairy, (and gluten too a'course, but you already knew that) FREE...but whoa, you'd never guess it it tastes totally normally AWESOME!! Try it out HERE, but lemme just give you a word of advice--don't use any brand of tofu except the one she recommends...oops, now the secret ingredient is out, but seriously no one would EVER know!!
See, love is just oozing down those cute lil' lips
Our quick easter egg (without the eggs...we were in a hurry) hunt in our great backyard. The boys left 2 days after conference to be with their other parents for Spring Break, but we managed to get in some stellar Lazer Tag @ the local establishment thanks to Aunt Sarin & Uncle Jared's Christmas present!!!
And a little park-magic while the boys were away.

Pinewood Derby #2

The boys enjoyed creating with Dad...up until the {borrowed} Dremel got stuck in Jaydon's shorts & it quit working...maybe we should retire early...
